Orthodontics / Teeth Alignment Corrections
Many inquiries from patients concern the alignment of their teeth. I often hear the phrase, "Can’t you file them a little so that the teeth look straight?" This usually refers to the lowerfront teeth, which often appear crowded and thus literally "crooked." However, these teeth are usually perfectly healthy and do not require any intervention. Apart from the fact that filingthe edges of the teeth does not change their position and thus doesn’t solve the problem, a minimally invasive treatment is always preferable for naturally healthy teeth. The solution to such a concern is teeth alignment correction.
Nowadays, there are many aligner systems that allow for teeth positioning correction in the form of braces without the need for a fixed dental appliance ("braces"). A 3D scan of the jawsenables precise analysis and treatment planning. The result can be displayed by the software before treatment even begins. After discussing and explaining the treatment process and duration, the aligners are ordered.
The aligner treatment requires good cooperation from the patients, as the aligners should beworn at all times except for eating and brushing teeth. I myself also had this treatment and can highly recommend it, as the aligners are barely visible. Oral hygiene can continue to beperformed without restrictions and without additional effort. It is a great pleasure to witnesshow the alignment of the teeth improves step by step. Most patient concerns about teethalignment can be addressed in this way. The aesthetic demands and perceptions of what isbeautiful are very individual, but a nice smile with straight teeth is an important beauty feature for many people. This path is not only open to children and adolescents withtraditional orthodontic treatment but also to adults.
Children and adolescents very often need orthodontic treatment as well. Our jaw and teethalignment are genetically determined but are also influenced by habits from early childhood(pacifier use, biting lips, thumb-sucking). This can lead to the development of so-called "open bites" or "crossbites" in young children, which can negatively affect further jaw growth. We can help here: On the one hand, through removable braces, which include active plates but also bionators (functional orthodontics) and are well-suited during the growth phases of thejaw. On the other hand, through fixed appliances for jaw expansion and teeth alignmentcorrection. First and foremost, I invite you to come for a consultation if you are concernedabout your child’s teeth alignment, as treatment doesn’t always need to be startedimmediately. With a lot of experience and care, we assess each child and advise you on the start, duration, and type of orthodontic treatment. Age and the child’s ability tocooperate/willingness also play a role in this. Together, we will find a solution. We lookforward to your visit!
