Pediatric Dentistry

Just as there is a medical specialty for children, there is also a corresponding field in dentistry– and it makes sense. Anyone who has children or works with children knows that theyrequire special care. Children cannot always understand that we mean well when we treattheir teeth. Children go through cognitive developmental stages, and these need to berecognized individually in order to respond appropriately to their behavior, so that theexamination or dental treatment can be successfully completed.

Working with children requires a lot of empathy, understanding, patience, and also experience, in order to implement the treatment quickly. "Keep your mouth open" is tiring foreveryone, and with children, the ability to withstand treatment is naturally limited, so longand exhausting treatment sessions should be avoided as much as possible. Planning a pediatric treatment together with the parents and caregivers is therefore very important, so that everyone involved has a positive experience. Children feel proud when they manage toparticipate well with the right support – and that is always our goal.

Immediately after completing my studies in 2006, my first boss, Dr. Frank Wittrin, encouraged me to specialize in pediatric dentistry and supported me in my further training, forwhich I am very grateful. I completed the "Curriculum for Pediatric and AdolescentDentistry" (DGZMK 2012) and have been regularly and enthusiastically continuing myeducation both nationally and internationally. I also draw from my years of experience as a dentist. I am always focused on offering children exactly the treatment they need at themoment. The greatest compliment for me is when children look forward to their appointmentsand are happy to come back.
