Caries Treatment

Caries in children are primarily treated with tooth-colored filling materials. Baby teeth and permanent teeth have the same basic structure, but the layers of the teeth differ in thickness. This can affect the adhesion of filling materials.

The tooth transition phase, as well as the child's willingness to cooperate, are importantfactors in determining which type of filling to use – a composite (plastic filling) or a glassionomer cement filling. Once baby teeth show early-stage caries (incipient caries), it oftenprogresses very quickly and should therefore be treated promptly. In cases of significant structural loss, baby tooth crowns may even be necessary, which can stabilize the teeth until the permanent teeth emerge.
