The First Dental Visit
There are different recommendations worldwide regarding when a toddler should have theirfirst dental visit. A check-up right after the eruption of the first tooth is, realistically speaking, more of a consultation appointment. Babies can only be examined briefly, often just with a "lap examination." However, children at this age quickly forget this excitement.
The Swiss Dental Association (SSO) recommends the first dental visit between the age of 2 and 3 years, and then once a year thereafter. Based on experience, most children are alreadyvery cooperative by the end of their second year. Exceptions prove this rule, as every child isdifferent. I recommend to all parents and caregivers to schedule the first dental visit whenthey believe their child will feel comfortable. But at the latest, if they notice anything unusualor concerning with their child's mouth or teeth, or after a dental injury.
